Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating, often disproportionate to the body's needs for temperature regulation. It can manifest in different areas, such as hands, feet, armpits, and face, creating both physical and psychological discomfort for those who suffer from it.

About

What Is It?

There are two main forms of hyperhidrosis. The first, called primary hyperhidrosis, is not associated with underlying pathologies and is often genetic in origin. It generally appears during adolescence or youth and affects localized areas, mainly involving hands, feet, armpits, and face. Those affected may experience episodes of intense sweating even in the absence of obvious triggers, such as heat or physical activity. Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is linked to pre-existing medical conditions, such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, infections, or hormonal imbalances typical of menopause, but can also be caused by taking certain medications.

How To Treat It

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can negatively impact quality of life, causing discomfort and insecurity in social and professional relationships. Among the most effective and safe solutions to control the problem is treatment with botulinum toxin, a minimally invasive technique that offers lasting results and a marked improvement in daily comfort. Botulinum acts by temporarily blocking nerve signals that stimulate sweat glands, thus reducing sweat production in treated areas. This treatment is particularly indicated for armpits, hands, feet, and face, which are the areas most frequently affected by primary hyperhidrosis.
