Procedures on the ears are aimed at correcting congenital morphological defects, such as excessively protruding auricles (prominent, protruding ears) but also exaggerated lobe dimensions (reductive otoplasty surgery), or problems that appear later, such as partially or completely fissured earlobes.
In the first two cases, the intervention consists of the remodeling of the cartilages that support and shape the auricles through skin accesses, and possible removal of excess tissue. The scars are invisible, both in terms of their position and size. In the case of correcting fissured lobes, the operation involves the suture of the same.
Surgery for "protruding ears"
Otoplasty is performed to correct protruding ears, a condition present since a person’s early childhood and often hereditary. The problem can be on both ears or just one – the protruding auricle does not always appear on both sides. The curvature of the auricular cartilages is corrected, remodeling and harmonizing the ears with respect to the neck, with no visible residual scars following surgery.
Surgery for large ears
The phenomenon of oversized ears occurs at a young age, but tends to get worse over the years. To restore a more harmonious and balanced proportion, a small operation under local anesthesia is sufficient.
Cosmetic surgery for the ear lobe
The closure of a lobe hole and the correction of the bifid lobe are advisable in case of evident deformation – especially due to years spent wearing heavy earrings – which can sometimes even tear the lobe into two separate flaps.
The repair takes place through a simple suture under local anesthesia, but it is necessary to consider the fact that, if one wishes to have the ears pierced again, it will be necessary to wait until it has healed completely.

For whom it is appropriate
Plastic surgery on the ears is indicated for those with prominent or so-called “protruding ears”, protruding or excessively sized auricles, asymmetry of the cartilaginous auricular folds. Earlobe cosmetic surgery is indicated in cases of dysmorphic or fissured lobes and bifid lobe.

It is necessary to foresee a stay in the clinic of about 4/24 hours. The surgery itself lasts 20/40 minutes.
