Breast implant replacement
The breast has a universally recognized aesthetic importance as an important symbol of femininity. Therefore, breast implant replacement surgery has a considerable significance, like the original augmentation mammoplasty or mastopexy.
When to replace implants
Prof. Carlo Tremolada and his team always pay great attention to the effective need for replacement of breast implants, which must not be standardized (every ten years) but assessed accurately based on the state of the implants, as well as the individual patient’s physical condition. This is more relevant now, as we have the latest generation of implants that are made from materials that are highly compatible and increasingly longer-lasting.
Protheses replacement
The breast implant replacement surgery is relatively quick, and at Image Regenerative Clinic it is performed under local anaesthesia with mild sedation, so that the patient can return to her normal activities that same evening.
Techniques are varied, and will be decided on the basis of the previous incision, as well as where the new implants are located and their type.
The incisions can be peri areolar, i.e., along the edge of the areola in its lower half, or submammary, i.e., in the furrow under the breast, so that they remain hidden in its natural support. Usually, the scar from the previous breast augmentation surgery is used to replace the prostheses.
The operation can become an opportunity to renew the breast: if the patient, after breast augmentation, has had one or more pregnancies after which a lift may be necessary, it will be possible to estimate a mastopexy at the same session, or a lipofilling with Prof. Tremolada’s regenerative Lipogems® patent.
Therefore, this procedure is often an opportunity for further aesthetic improvement, in addition to the replacement of prostheses that may not always conform to the highest safety standards.

The replacement of breast implants is appropriate if there is an effective deterioration of the implants on checking whilst using one’s hands, with ultrasound examination and/or MRI, or if the patient simply wishes to improve the appearance of the breast.
